Ok, so I never lived in a castle or stumbled upon a nice American guy at that castle, but I felt akin to Cassandra as Anne of Green Gables felt about Diana.She has a universal appeal yet this novel is very personal and Cassandra is someone I feel honoured to have met.This is a slow and steady read, an immersive journey into times past and I felt enveloped in the mists of time reading it She is growing up, deciding where to go in life and wondering who she is. Cassandra is our narrator and has those voices in her head we all have as young girls. This book is like a hug, a nod to times past and left me with a feeling that this book rescued me in many ways.Stand out for me was the narrator, the pacing of the novel and the time in which it is set. I picked this up as I had lost my reading mojo and felt uninspired to read the latest thriller. I’ve had it on my shelves where it’s just been looking at me.
